Good and evil is basic, yes
Line of Events
How can she write so delicately without a fixed framework between good and evil? If you think about it, it is basic, but it is used in almost every movie because that is where the story begins. However, the writer of “Following” takes a harder path, and she makes it work. That chilling ending is the perfect example of how she morally balances good and evil.
That’s what I’m talking about
When Gu gets out of prison, the movie starts to portray him as a nice guy, and I scream “Don’t give the stalker a free pass, especially when stalking and killing his ex-girlfriends is a social phenomenon in Korea.” Then, Detective Oh says “look what you’ve done with your life.” Bam! She made it look easy, but I’m sure bringing the right amount of justice to different intensities of crime is no easy task. At the same time, she critiques the current obsession with social media in a subtle way (not obvious like in one of those exhortation films)* Shin’s acting is absorbing and convincing as hell. Simply superb.* I just realized that “Following” is Kim’s directorial debut.
